About Epidote:

-Epidote was not recognized as its own mineral until the early 1800s because of its similarity to tourmaline.

-In 1801, it was given its name, which was derived from the Greek word “epidosis,” by Rene Just Hauy.

-In Greek, “epidosis” means “increase,” and this name was chosen for Epidote because the crystal is characteristically longer on one side of the prism’s base.

-There are deposits in the U.S, Africa, Alaska, Austria, Burma, Brazil, China, France, Ireland, South America, Russia and Norway.
